My WD passport will spin but will then makes a clicking sound. I’ve had two techs look at it and both say it is a burnt chip and needs to be replaced. My computer will not recognize it all. Has anyone had any luck with replacing the board. Apparently this is a common problem with WD.

Try searching the posts by fzabkar he has posted about this. Here is one Accidentally connected 19v supply to 2TB WD Elements and now pretty dead :( - #3 by Joe_S There are more guiding people thru fixing them.
