Beta Release - WDTV Live Firmware Version 1.06.41_V (12/20/12)

EVERYTIME you want to remove the drive from the media player you MUST use the eject button in order to safely remove the device.  This prevents corruption, or in some cases, the files being locked in read only state.  I never remove my drives by simply pulling the cable, even when the device is off.

First of all, WD thanx for supporting your (mine) device for so long! I’m a rational person but I must admit that at some level it does most certainly influence my ‘feelings’ towards WD products in general when looking into and buying new hardware like HDD’s etc. … and I buy those a lot… hence my ‘need’ for a network player, starting couple of years ago.
So cudos to your marketing dept for (at least subconsciously) keeping me in this loyalty-circle.
And thanks to you Bill for actually being a living person, despite all the ehr ‘assertive’ posts by some of my fellow owners (of an extremely cheap device that after two years is still being supported and having features added to it!) actually answering Q’s.  …  that is, never needed it (therefore this long lead-in) , until now:

Latest update in its official version gave me large part of the spectrum of now know problems, like slow starting of shared-drive/directory movie-files, messed-up fast forward/backwarding and not loading of the new Youtube-thing beyond the loading-screen-logo. (Android) remote worked like a charm from the beginning though, very nice and very welcome feature!!

Installed the latest beta, everything conscerning the network-files playing is solved and seems to work well again.

BUT, Youtube, still staying stuck at the loading screen (black background with only the youtube logo in the middle and a randomly or not at all moving white line under it).
Thats starting to be somewhat anoying, I used (the old) YouTube on my WDTV live daily, had many playlists etc.
Starting to miss that AND am not able to try wether or not I like the new YT-‘Leanback’.

Are there others encoutering this problem?  Is there a know solution? Is there a reason why YT doesnt work specifically on my device/location (The Netherlands).
Have experimented with lots of device settings and device&network setup options, probably covered all the possibilities but might still have missed an obvious cause or solution, so all advice is very much welcome. (network cable IS plugged in for instance  )

Hello - I am trying to upgrade the firmware to the latest beta on my WD TV Live ( in the hopes that it will fix a recent problem of not being able to play flv files from youtube)

I have downloaded and unzipped the relevant files and put them on a USB memory stick and connected it to the WD TV Live, but I dont seem to be able to get to any of the screens or menu prompts to upgrade the firmware - for example pressing “Home” on the remote just gets me me the regular Games -RSS -Files-Setup…etc menu bar at bottom ofthe screen— and the setting in setup, system, checklatestfirmware and setup, system,AutodetectNew Firmware ( whuch is ON) dont do anything either. No amoint of resetting or restarting seems to do anything either.

( my current firmware is 1.12.14  that was auto upgraded a few months ago )

I  am really perplexed trying to figure out how to do it - could some one please help?  thanks

Lukecool - you have a live streaming player gen3 with the latest firmware installed. This beta release is for old WD players which were released before yours.

Dohhh…OK thanks for th quick reply - I couldnt figure why the menus were nothing like the documentation.

I gues the real problem  remains unsolved - the WD TV Live wont read recently downloaded FLV files from you tube ( ones I downloaded a while ago work fine )  - its probably becuase youtube have changed the codec inside the flv’s

Again thanks for the help will try another another forum/topic
