It seems after 1 week my 4TB has a major issue. My first concern here is MY data integrity. Is there a way to get my data off of this thing? Is it possible the USB Port can be a host/device port?
I am sure there will be questions as to what is wrong with it. So:
Tonight I plugged in a 2TB Seagate USB 3.0 drive in the back. Walk back to my laptop to check it out and didn’t see my drive. So I go for Dashboard to do a reset and the reset failed. If I had known it would never talk again I would have saved the error code but I did search for it on here and the error seemed to be a common one for reset.
So then I go and try a manual reset to which this thing won’t even reboot manually. Blue light stays lit, ethernet lights stay lit, never reboots.
Can’t ping it, setup doesn’t see it, dashboard doesn’t see it. Its toast.
I’ve been searching these forums and while there are plenty of reboot issue threads I found none where the device just won’t even initiate a reset.
To say that after a week I am at a loss would be an under statement.
I am going to go ahead and apologize in advance but did you read my issue?
I have 2TB of data already transferred from 2 computers on my network, all of my DropBox data, all of my music, all of my movies, Time Machine backs ups from an iMac and a macbook pro.
The WD light is blue, the eth lights are green, the device will not reset manually using the paper clip. When I say it won’t reset I mean it won’t even start a reset operation.
If yes, eject the USB disk (click on the USB icon at the top right, the eject button is on the bottom left of the window that appears)
Then, try rebooting the device from the utilities section. If it doesn’t respond, disconnect the power and reconnect.
If you cannot access the dasboard, disconnect the power.
Press the Reset button, keep it pressed, plug the power back, and hold for about 40 seconds. The device undergoes a system restore and powers on.
I read your entire first post, maybe you need to go back and read it again. You had a couple of questions in the first paragraph. I provided links to information for you to look at, read and see what you can do.
I read and went though all this information along with the User Manuals before I got my My Cloud and set it up. At this time I haven’t had any problems with mine.
