Compiling Media Library takes hours and freeze the WD TV

Hi everybody,

I bought a WD TV Live (3rd gen) yesterday. Everything seemed to work perfectly until I connected a USB hard drive (Verbatim Store’n’save 3TB with 2 partitions 2TB + 1 TB). After a while it was written “Compilation of the Media Library…” on the screen of the TV and the white light on the WD TV Live was flashing. So I let it working but it never stopped and the screen was frozen.

So I stopped the hard drive and could get back the control of the WD TV Live.

I turned off the Media Library and connected the Hard drive again. After a while (it takes several minutes to be detected) I could access to the hard drive and play video or music. It worked fine.

I turned on the Media Library and it started the compilation again… I decided to let it working thinking that as I have lots of media files maybe it needs a long time to find all the information about them (is it what is doing the Media Library compilation ?). However it worked for more than 10 hours and it is still working. The hard drive seems working, the white light of the WD TV Live is flashing, the screen of the TV is black and I have no control on the WD TV Live.

Do you have an idea about this ? Is it normal that the first time it takes so long ? Should I let it working more ?

I add that I never got any error message…

I am using the wifi connection, not cable, could it be the problem ?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Best regards

Toonyto

[I previously posted this in the section WD TV Live but I think it was not the good place… I don’t know how to delete the post from there]

Keep in mind that all will depend on your internet connection and the amount of media files that you have.

Another thing, the media player will only read one of the partitions… so it might be confuse gathering the information

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

Ok, I will avoid using partitioned hard drive. However, I don’t really understand why it depends on the internet connection, I think I didn’t understood well what is the media library compilation doing…

After reading the manual I though it was just supposed to gather a list of all the files from all the sources connected to the SMP. In this case I had only a USB source…

What is it doing with the internet collection ?
