Yeah I read the link but did me not good.I dont need to set up a password I need to figure it out to unlock it which is impossible to do.
then you didn’t read the link. There are instructions there on what you must do to reformat the drive to remove the password.
If removing the password was as simple as pushing the button then that would be a HUGE security flaw. A password is meant to protect the data. If pushing a button removed the password, then the data is not protected at all.
So there is no known password that WD Hardrive sets on its own.I would think that they would know what it is since there drive is one that had the bright idea to set a password and lock itself. Its one thing to set a password and forget but another for one to set a password all on its own.If this is gonna happen with my new drive thats coming I may as well sell it and get 2TB Element which dont have a chance in doing this.I didnt know this had password encryption when I bought it since my other 500 GB My Book drive does not which I have never had problems with and I had it for a few years now and I certainly did know the drive would set a password on it own out of the blue. The My Book Passworded series are flawed. They seem to have a mind of there own after a while setting passwords that nobody know how to fix it.I
Yeah well I cant afford a professional to get my data back since it would cost thousand dollars or so to do so which since I have no job I cant do that so I have to bite the bullet and lose the data that I have been saving for years.I will not get any drive like this again. If a drive failed after 2 months now that is just pathetic but I did get it at Walmart so there is no telling how many times the thing had been dropped stomped on.No telling what abuse it took from wd to wally world.
Well I lost all of the data i had on it.I dont have the drive anymore.I sent it in.I couldn’t get a pro to get the data.I mean I think Wd should do it since it was there fault but they did try to make it right tho.Its all good.Hopefully my new drives wont fail.
Yeah I agree that most of these nonsense post are a bunch of waste of time.If you dont know dont waste my time and other peoples time that may have the same problem.
I did tell you that the password couldn’t be undone by anyone, even WD, and if the drive was still working all you could possibly do is format the drive, losing everything in the process.
You kept posting back looking for a different answer because you didn’t like the one you were given. If your time was wasted, that was your choice.
Next time, if you don’t want users offering you suggestions, then don’t ask users for their suggestions – just call Customer Service at WD and be done with it.
That is what I did and I wasnt talking about you. There were some that helped and some that didnt and when I tried to format it wouldnt help me so ur help did not help cause it would not format.Somehow the drive went totally bad not that I have to explain myself or anything.Geez u guys sure are easily offended.
i have this same exact problem. Ive been transfering data from my PC to the hard drive and then the hard drive to my WDTV for 6 months without any problems then suddenly it asked for a password. I have no idea what it could be. This actually happened once before with another HDD but I returned that one for the one I presently having trouble with. Is there any solution to this? Help please
There is no solution to this. The data was corrupted and I had to send the thing back.It was a big mess since my 3.0 screwed up and my pc screwed up all about the same time. What are the odd of that happening lol.so i lost pretty much all of my info.I had better luck with my 500 gig hard drive that i got before these and it still kicking wish they made um like that one instead of these recycleable ones.My next hard drive prolly be seagate to see how well they hold up.Here at WD they dont care about your data they just have u return it or have u pay someone 500 bucks an hour to get ur data back which since I am a single user not a businees if could not do cause I could not afford it.
