Help! My Passport Essential 640GB in big trouble

I bought WD My Passport Essential 640GB on May 2010, it was working well but suddenly it not working anymore today.  There was only one directory shown in windows file manager but the rest of directories were all disappeared, I could not find and access any file … oh how to recover lot lot of my files and data !!   I ran WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics tool to test the drive, SMART status was PASS, but Quick Test was failed. Test Result: FAIL Test Error Code: 06-Quick Test on drive 2 did not complete! Status code = 07 (Failed read test element), Failure Checkpoint = 97 (Unknown Test) SMART self-test did not complete on drive 2!    Somebody could help me recover the data !

Is your drive recognize by your computer at all? Have you try to connect the drive to a different computer? Also how about changing the USB cable?

If you try all the basic trouble shooting steps and still not able to see your data you will need to contact a data recovery company.

you could also try getting a power booster cable for your drive from wd.  it is possible you are not getting enough power for the drive to spin up all the way.  check disk management and see what it says.  if the drive shows up, but the bar is black, then it is also possible that your file system was corrupted.  otherwise, you are looking at data recovery.
