Mycloud keeps falling off the network

Log into what? The My Cloud Dashboard? The mycloud.com web portal? Or some other location?

One of the programs one can use with the My Cloud will constantly alert the user to any Notifications present or issued by the My Cloud firmware. One can see these notifications or alerts when they access the My Cloud Dashboard and click on the notification/alert icon (mycloudnotificationicon). One can go through the list and remove the alerts that will prevent the alerts from showing up via a My Cloud app.

I get that message when I try and login with Mycloud dashboard and that’s as far as I get. The blue light just keeps flashing.

I have constant problems with Windows updates and just used this:
How to Enable SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support on Windows 10
https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4155

Why can’t WD check this box remotely, if its an essential component. Then again, sometimes I can see my WD Mycloud files in Windows File Explorer in one instance, but if I open a second instance of FE it might not be able to access WD.

I had a failed PC board on a WD Mycloud, so after browsing the Web for advice, I took the HD out of its box, mounted it as an external USB drive on a PC running Linux (probably Knoppix) and extracted all the files to a local drive.

I’m not quite ready to pull the drive out, but I’m getting close. 3+ days running a file system consistency check with no real time status.

How would WD check to see if it’s enabled without the user running some sort of software? Its a core setting in Microsoft Windows. And Microsoft has chosen to disable the setting due to security reasons in new Windows 10 installs and in recent patch updates to Windows 10.

This is an issue that affects most NAS devices that still rely on the SMB1.0 protocol. One possible workaround is for the manufacturer to update their NAS firmware so SMB1.0 isn’t used.

Ok but they might at least put out a bulletin of what to look for, or a Win prog. to check what settings it has. I’ve got a MyCloud and a MyCloud Home and Win10, Win7, Vista(WiFi) PC’s. The access status between these has changed constantly over the months. At the moment I can’t see the MyCloud Home files in File Explorer (as I once could), only in their web app, which is very clumsy. Not being a network expert I don’t know how to fix this. iPads are not problem.

Well, to be fair, WD does have a FAQ entry displayed for the user to see if the user takes the time to look at the WD Support page for the single bay/single drive My Cloud (https://support-en.wd.com/app/products/product-detail/p/126) that potentially addresses this particular issue. If one scrolls a bit down to the FAQ section they see the following:

And in that Knowledgebase article under cause the first sentence is; “SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support has been disabled on Windows 10 Windows 10 Fall Creators Update version 1709 and higher.” Under the solution section is the Knowledgebase article that another poster linked to above.

The My Cloud Home is a completely different device than the My Cloud line. It has a different operating system apparently, and has different features/options than the My Cloud line. There is a separate specific community subforum for the My Cloud Home device if you haven’t seen it already.

It appears the FAQ entry mention above in the screen shot may also apply to the My Cloud Home.

Are there things WD could have possibly done to better inform users? Yes. But there are limits to what WD could have done when this issue first appeared more than a year ago. However the very same complaint leveled at WD can be and should be leveled at Microsoft since, ultimately, they are the one’s who changed the Windows 10 operating system via a patch (or during a new install) to disable the previously enabled SMB1.0 option. This SMB1.0 issue affected many NAS devices not just those sold by WD.

Some good tips Bennor, I enabled SMB 1,0 and got My Cloud into Win10 File explorer again. There’s no such feature in Win 7 which has always worked.
Maybe I can get my Cloud Home into Win10/7 File Explorers too. Life’s too short to read all those WD articles unless you’re a serious network user.

I’ve had this issues too with 2 WD Mycloud Ex4 (1x3x6Tb, 1x4x4Tb). Many times loosing network connection shortly after start-up (30 seconds-30 minutes) and later also completely unexpected. With network lost connection it is also not possible to shut down with front button, only by disconnecting power supply.
Eventually, i think the power supply was the problem. My opinion is there is simply not enough power for all drives during start-up/consistency check or intensive use. I bought a new 120W supply to power one and moved the original to the other one, making 2x90W. This solved the problems for both machines.
