So If for some chance that renamed VOB will play through the whole movie I would be ok as a solution and would not need an iso correct? I have that renamed VOB as a single movie in the playlist it does not show the remaining VOB’s in that folder like I said I am not sure if it will play the whole movie. Now I do mine by movie 1 folder per one movie so there would be a folder Named Dawn Patrol inside that folder would be folder .jpg and in my case a video_ts. lets say I go to an iso file I would then have folder called Dawn Patrol inside that would be the iso file called Dawn_patrol I would have the folder jpg I would then copy that and rename it Dawn_patrol jpg and this should give me the thumbnails for the playlist along with the thumbnails for netshare. Also to add if this VOB file in my playlist will play through then I would need to add that same named jpg inside my movie folder or inside the video ts folder?
There’s no point in having a separate folder for each movie if you only have one file per movie – the only reason you do this is if you have a number of files (if you rip the entire DVD structure and are playing that root file to start things off). Otherwise you are needlessly creating complications for yourself.
And because an ISO plays the same way as the DVD structure, there’s no reason to have the DVD structure. Just have one file per movie and keep things simple.
So all the movies (and all the thumbs for all the movies) can exist inside the same folder:
Simple is good I like that I will go back to iso files but this would work for creating playlists right when we talk about netshares then I would need a folder inside that, the iso file and folder jpg then things would be good right? I realize my original question was to view all files with thumbnails I am asking the ladder question so I can get the idea between netshares and playlist. Once again Thanks
I’m not quite sure I understand your question. The problem with thumbs and net shares is that when you view your folder in Net Shares you see both the movie AND the thumb images separately. That’s why a playlist is so effective – because you only see the thumb for movie (and not the thumb file itself). But in your case it will also consolidate all the files from all your drives and/or folders.
But if you have a question you might want to rephrase it.
Oh, and just for chuckles I found some freeware that converts a VOB structure into an ISO. Here’s a link to the page describing how to use and download it (I used the first piece of software, Folder2Iso).
I tried it and it works fine – the ISO plays just like a regular DVD (assuming you are using firmware which supports this feature) with menus and everything. Should clean up your structure quite a bit.
Yes you are right when I view a movie it shows the thumbnail then I open that thumbnail which is really a folder it shows the thumbnail again along with the video ts folder then I have to go into that and that is where I find the file to click on to watch the movie. I was just trying to figure out a way to at least for now what the best way for me to go as I have about 500 movies on my NAS. most of which are VOB. converting those if possible will be a job in future I will go back to ISO. I totally understand what you are saying and I like the fact that you click on thumbnail and movie plays that is way better than what I have. Thanks alot for the help I will do a iso tonight and see how it looks in playlist
With Playlist Creator If you insert a new movie to your playlist is there anyway to save the file without hitting create and rewriting over your existing playlist?
