Share function failed. (400099)

This product is/was NOT ready for prime time.  I have had nothing but problems from day one.  The most frustrating of which is performance.  It is the slowest so called ‘personal cloud’ product available.  I am ready to toss it in my proverbial ‘Junk Drawer’.

I am not about to jump through all kinds of hoops to fix an issue with a share that took more than 4 hours to upload.

Share function failed. (400099).  Really?  W-T-F WD?

Post a freaking response AND fix to this issue.

I recently did a full factory restore (for the third time).  It takes hours each time.  Then hours to re-establish my share data.  Then to setup the users and so on.

Give your customers a fix or recall this incredibly terrible product!

I’m having the same [or similar] issue.  When I try to change the “Media Sharing” or “Public Access” conditions on a Share, after a long pause I get the error message “Share function failed. (400099)”.  I’m attempting this using the My Cloud “UI” on Firefox 37.0.1 on a Win 7 Home Premium 64bit PC.

I see this has been an issue for over a year, with no apparent resolution!  This is a HUGE deficient!  What good is a Cloud Storage System that can’t be secured?!

@WD: I have given the WD Personal Cloud good reviews on such sites as Amazon, Newegg, Best Buy, etc.  If this fault is is not attended to, ASAP, I will modify my reviews towards the negative!  And I urge all others affected by this to do the same.  I have already posted this negative experience on my Facebook and Twitter accounts, and will gladly report any positive future outcome.

This device is the worst i have ever had, also got a Wd My Book with many firmware problem … NOT ONE WD device anymore in my life. The support service is non existent, i’ve losed many hours trying to dodge every problem on this device… as soon as i solve one … an other pop up… this thing is clearly badly developed.

Refund me this useless device, you steal money from customers without giving them the promised services… no my NAS do not give me what it is supposed to give.

I was able to rename the share from myshare to myshare2 then I was able to change the settings.  I then renamed the share bacy from myshare2 to myshare and it all worked.

I don’t know if this will help anybody, but I had the dreaded Share function failed. (400099) & tried everything then I changed my share profile from Brian to Brians & it updated o/k then changed it back to Brian, it updated again, the public share was off & I could then update full access for my other users.

I do agree with other users that this piece of equipment is utter s##t#

Here’s a Work Around that worked for me.

Background

I just finished setting up a 3TB MyCloud yesterday, created a few shares and users, put a couple folders in a non-public “Pictures” share, with Full Access for me, and Read-Only access for everyone else.  I accessed them from another Computer and 3 different IPhones (user accounts) including my own, all worked pretty well.  Then I decided I would rather name the folder “MyPictures” so it would be listed in order with MyMusic, MyVideos.  I got the Share Function Failed (400099) several times.  Grrrrrr.  I tried renaming a few other folder, same results.

Root Cause (my speculation)

I’m thinking there must be a Synchronization Rule that is not well defined and getting stuck.  So I tried shutting down all of the devices that are currently accessing “Pictures”, to free up the potential synch lock to rename “MyPictures”.  I shutdown the second Computer and my IPhone, but did not have access to the other 2 IPhones.  That didn’t work.  Maybe if I shut them all down?  I don’t know.

Then I thought, maybe it’s the restriced access that is connected to the other IPhones that are still accessing the named “Pictures” folder.

Work Around

I changed the access of “Pictures” to Public, renamed to “MyPictures”, saved sucessfully without the Share Function Failed (400099), changed the access back to Full Access for me and Read Only for everyone else.  I tried this work around for the other folders I wanted to rename, and it worked fine.

Hope this works for everyone!

I’ve noticed that “Function Failed” pretty much should mean “Function Not Supported”

just my 2 cents
