Streaming media to an Xbox

Hi,

I’ve taken the plunge and FINALLY ordered one of these. I have to wait about 3 weeks for it (Im in the UK) so I hope it’s worth the wait!

I understand you are able to stream media from the Hub to an Xbox in another room (It is connected to the ethernet via a Homeplug).

Is this easy enough to do? How do you go about it?

Thanks.

Put the media you want to stream on the Hub’s Internal HD.

Configure & Activate “Twonky” through the UI and the Web Interface.

Voila, you’re done.

Thanks, Sounds simple enough. Am I to take it from what you’re saying that you can’t stream anything from an attached external hard drive, only from the hub’s internal HD?

That’s my understanding, though I haven’t tried it myself.  I seldom use the HUB’s DLNA server because my 8TB NAS has its own Twonky server (and I rarely use it, either.)

Fair enough. Thanks for your answer.

You bet.

Keep us posted when you receive it!

I will, thanks.

If you run out of room on your Hub get a My Book Live (or 2) - both the Xbox and the Hub should be able to pick it up with no problem and will give you essentially unlimited space on your network to use with your media network.

When you plug a USB flash drive or HDD into the Live Hub, it will share that device on the network.

Testing with a USB flash drive, it appears as a separate folder within the WDTVLIVEHUB share.

I’m not sure how that becomes visible externally in terms of the media server (i.e. Twonky).

There’s a possibility that the Xbox may pick it up then. Thanks for you help.

Hi,

Set the Hub up yesterday. Just thought I’d let you know that I’ve managed to stream all the content from the internal drive to the Xbox using ‘Twonky’ with no problems so far.

Many thanks for your help.
