Support for 1080p24 playback

Hello,

I just bought this unit, and as I can see, there is no video output at 1080p24.

At the moment it only supports 1080p 60hz or 1080p 50hz, and this output causes “judder” with 24p movies.

Will there be any firmware upgrade in order to solve this problem?

Thanks

Regards

Sorry for my english but I am french…

I feel very disapointed with the wd elements play because it is impossible to select 24 fps or 23.976.

I think that this is just unacceptable for the last device from WD specialy when you know that the old devices like wd tv live (and cheaper) can do it…

The consequence is that you always have judder all along the movies… It is just a problem of firmaware so I really hope that WD will do the necessary quickly and keep the clients informed … For my part as long as there will be no updated or information from WD, I will continue to inform the specialized web site about this problem and i am sure that the peopole will not buy this…

Honestly this is just a joke at this price that the devellopers did not put these options!

If you have any news regardind this problem. Thank you to keep me informed : yok833@gmail.com

Thank you

I think the price is because the unit includes a hard drive. HD’s are expensive to make and can jump up the price. It’s still a great deal considering you don’t need to purchase an external hard drive to go with it.

Thank you for your answer.

I think that for the last device from WD and with the highest price, they could have made the effort to include, in the firmware, the support of the 24p and 23.976 which is now obligatory as the most part of the MKV files are in those fomats.

Unfortunatly, I have a lot of “judders” in the most part of my movies… so this device is useless…

The reason why I feel very disapointed is that the firmawre cost nothing for them and the surely prepare a new version “Wd elements play live plus” with the support of the 24p. In addition of that, the previous model , the WD TV live (with the same chipset), has this option so they really don’t care about us!

I have start to write a lot of emails in the specialised web site & forums in France & US to tell the people to not buy this device before an uptade including the minimum that we can expect…

You’re probably in the 0.01% of people who find “Judder,” as you describe it, objectionable.   The VAST majority of people don’t even realize it’s there…

Considering almost EVERY program shot on film (most TV shows and ALL movies) aired on television is also being telecined to 30 (or 25 in PAL), which is where the Judder comes from…

i M SORRY BUT IF WE WERE 0,01% tHERE WILL BE NO AS MUCH SYSTEM USING THE 24FPS AND 23.796

EVEN ON THE LAST UPDATE WD HAS ADDED THE 24FPS ON HIS BEST SELLER THE WD TV LIVE. I PRESUME THAT THE ELEMENTS PLAY HIS NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO HAVE IT? I REALLY DONT KNOW WHY THEY HAVE NOT INCLUDED THIS OPTION WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE WHO LOVE THE TRUE CINEMA

I’m not an expert, and I noticed judder when I was playing a movie recorded in 24p.

Seeing the major firmware updates in other WD products, I hope seeing a new firmware for the WD elements play.

All other WD multimedia devices except the mini TV, support 24p! Come on WD don’t disappoint us!

Regards

Thank you for your message. I totaly agree with you taht even a non expert can see the lag on the video. Now 99% of the videos are rip from blueray so the 24p is the standard.

How long does it generally take for an update? Should I sell my wd element play now or do you think that maybe in 2 or 3 weeks we could see changes?

I used to have an HCPC at home and I become mad each time a see a judder… I don’t know if it’s me but I also have the impression that the sound is not well coordinated with the video… When a people talks in a movie, we have the impression that the sound is late in comparaison of the mouvements of the lips…

…then all you guys must go NUTS whenever you watch almost anything broadcast on TV…  ;)

Come on… We don’t have the same TV… There is no comparaison between what we have on the TV and what this player deliver…

Do you think that this is something that WD will propose (24hz and 23.976) and how long may it take?

I’m saying that, since everything aired on TV has the same judder you’re referring to, then everything you watch must be painful!

By the way, the Elements uses the AMLOGIC chipset.  I can’t find anything online that says that the chipset supports 1080p24.

So it’s very sad for the last device from WD…

I was a regular client of this brand… I will move to popcorn…

At this rate it is really a joke to have not including this possibility…

Which of the popcorns have an internal drive?

The internal drive isn’t the problem… It’s like having a good car who does’n’t work… who care? We ask the device to do the job and if I am not wrong the job is to read the movies correctly… this device is not able to do it so I take a model (popcorn a-200) which is able to do it… I pêrfer to add 40€ for an external drive and I device who works than 180€ for one useless

You’d be better off with a full-fledged WDTV (Live or Live Plus if you want network interaction) in that case- knocks the socks off the popocorn hour and does everything you are looking for besides the internal drive.

If I was sure that an update would come soon to give the possibility to choose between 23.976 or 24 fps I would keep the elements play.

But as nothing is sure and that it could take several month I prefer to buy a device where I am sure to not have trouble…

I can’t belive that WD take their customer for idiots…

HOLA A TODOS.

YO ME HE COMPRADO HACE UNA SEMANA EL WD JUGAR Y TAMBIEN TENGO LOS PROBLEMAS DE SALTO EN LA IMAGEN CUANDO SE ESTA PELÍCULA ES UN REPRODUCIENDO FORMATO MKV. CREO QUE ESTO SE SOLUCIONAR Podria ACTUALIZADO CON FIRMWARE de las Naciones Unidas, CON LO QUE ESPERO QUE LOS Señores de WD SE Pongan A TRABAJAR Y LO SAQUEN antes "FIRMWARE POSIBLE QUE SOLUCIONE ESTE PROBLEMA EL.

POR Cierto, ¿ALGUIEN SABE CUANDO ESTE SACARÁN FIRWARWE?

[translated]

A WEEK AGO I BOUGHT ME THE WD PLAY AND I ALSO HAVE PROBLEMS with the image jumping WHEN THIS MOVIE IS A PLAYING in MKV FORMAT. I think this could be solved with an firmware update from the United States, I hope that WD will get to work and release a firmware that will solve this problem.

Incidentally, does anyone know when a FIRWARWE will be released?

hi…I bought the wd elements play 2 TB two days ago…I do have these problems too…I’m disappointed that WD couldn’t make a little effort to include the 1080p24 on this player, since it is on the WD TV, an older product…I hope they will solve the problem with a new firmware, so I can say I have a TOPclass product.  If I read this MISSED feature on the box, I would have bought a WD LIVE with an external hdd  :frowning:

Hello Guys,

If you want my advise… Sell this [deleted] from WD and buy something else cheaper and much better!

How is WDTV with high bitrate BLU-RAY files? Is it smooth with no audio problems?
