I have a Caviar Black HDD that I formatted in Win7, I then did a partial image (image didn’t complete) before it failed some months back - it has never worked since and I’ve never got around to doing anything about this til now.
- BIOS sees all my Sata ports but the one with this HDD doesn’t show the model number - it’s completely blanked on port 4.
- Windows doesn’t detect it, no software or utility can see it.
- This is annoying because there may be data on there (personal docs, passwords, payment spreadsheet of my bank accounts), if WD do decide to recover it or even fix it and sell it on, would this personal information be at risk??
- As WD CB has a 5 year warranty, is this problem classed as a hardware failure since I can’t test it myself?
Any feedback would be much appreciated in helping me out.
Thanks.
dont be horried
Your Hard drive will be completely cleaned before any attempts in repair
Thanks! That is good to know David, if anyone can get this faulty HDD working it is WD themselves.
Do you know how long do repairs normally take?
I was going to use the advanced RMA where they send a new one ahead of getting the problem HDD (I’m from UK) , will this not apply in this situation if they attempt to fix it or do I get a new HDD in any case?
i never used that advanced replacement… but if it is available in your area you can use that to recover your information first
you will get a good hard drive may be new, may be refurbished ( certificaly repaired) i dont know and you will have 30 days to send your faulty drive
you will have to use a credit card, just to be sure that you send your drive to them after receiving the new one
