WD TV Live Incompatible w/ Windows 8? I'm close to giving up!

well I guess just opinion

but I think the original poster was helped

we identified the problem

original poster found an older router that works

said he does not want to use the old router

so tony provided an option to make this work with the E3000

but yes since then no response

as for dcb917, his original post was deemed inappropriate and deleted by moderator

and we’ve now got a whole page of arguing back and forth, I dont’ see how it’s helping anybody

as for not requesting closed,

too late now, request went in at the time of my post above,

so mod can decided what they want to do

and no I’m not opposed to discussion or even disagreement, providing that all sides are respectful

as for dcb917 in this thread, I see no reason for his post other than to stir up an argument

When I mean the original poster I mean the poster who started this thread. The poster you helped was another user who jumped in (maybe the same with a different user name, who knows).

As far as I can see dcb917 has only posted in this thread 3 times with 1 deleted so its hardly a major back and forth. It may be that be that he likes an argument but he was not off topic and he is entitled to his views. I for one was interested in the whole debate and I think he made some good points which have a right to be aired. You have to remember that you may not have problems but a lot of people do and they come here to vent their frustrations. I don’t know what he said in the first post which was removed but I don’t see anything wrong with any of his other 2 posts in this thread except disagreement and he was given as good as he gave in that respect.

Hopefully the thread will now go to bed (without any need to close it!). I certainly will not be making any further comment.

I will leave the thread open. Discuss all you want guys but keep it civil and friendly. If off topic posting continues the thread will be closed.

Hey guys. I had a quick flick through this thread…

Im on Windows 8 and I too had a bit of grief with a new router supplied by plusnet (technicolour router) or so I thought.

The problem is not with windows 8 (or the router) as such, it just handles networks slightly differently. Upon connecting with my new router the network was predefined as “public” which automatically turns off network discovery and file and printer sharing. If you change the network connection type to “private” and then ensure that the network discovery and file and printer sharing options are enabled, your share should work no problem.

I’ve never used homegroup for sharing files, I prefer to use advanced sharing options. I create a user profile for the WD device and then hide that user profile after I’ve logged in to it once. Then define the shared folders using “advanced sharing” to that specific user. This method works flawlessly.

There is certainly no issue with sharing from windows 8 at this end…
