I have a 1TB My Book Live (WDBACG0010HCH) that all of a sudden stopped working. When plugged in, I can hear the drive running, but the front LED light is off and the drive is not accessable. I’ve tried to unplug and replug in the drive multiple times as well as hitting the reset button on the back of the drive.
Does anyone else have any ideas out there or have you heard of this before? I’ve had absolutely no problems with the unit prior to this happening.
Unfortunately the light is not the only symptom. I can no longer access the drive from either the UI or direct file transfer. But I do hear the drive running when it’s plugged in.
Hi all, I’m new to this, sole reason is to find out why my MBL is also experiencing the same systems as yours (LED burnt out 4 weeks ago, now dirve no longer accessible from UI or SmartWare, or from MS Explorer.
Drive still spins and fan still works, but unable to do anything with it.
Its a 2T drive with all my photos, family videos, music and my PC and laptop backups. (prob only using < fifth of the capacity).
Very keen to find out how to resolve without wiping the data off the drive.
Even tried uninstalling and reinstalling SmtWre but to no avail.
Here is some feedback I got from techncial support. For me, plugging directly into the wall socket vs a surge protector helped me at least get access to the drive to get my data off. I’m now implementing an RMA to get a new unit because it’s continued to fail.
1.- Attempt to power cycle the unit. This is done by disconnecting the Ethernet cable and the Power Adapter from the back of the unit, and wait 20 seconds to reconnect them. Make sure that you connect the Power to a wall outlet, and not a power strip, at least for troubleshooting purposes to ensure that it’s not a power issue.
2.- You can try to reset the unit, which is done by pressing the reset button, which is located on the back of the unit, right above the Ethernet port, for 4 seconds, and then releasing it. This procedure will restart it, which can take up to 3 minutes, and normally fixes some glitches that might be undergoing from bad firmware updates or other small errors.
3.- I wish for you to attempt a combination of the two processes done earlier. I wish for you to disconnect the power of the unit for 5 minutes. After the 5 minutes have passed, then I wish for you to press and hold the Reset button on the back of the unit with a paper clip or something of the kind. With the Reset button being held, please proceed to connect the power of the unit back on, and count to 7. After 7 seconds have passed, then release the Reset button on the unit and let the unit boot up. Should this not happen, after about 5 minutes to see if it boots up, then repeat it waiting 10 seconds to release the Reset.
4.- At some moment that the drive is working and accessible, please verify that you’re running on the latest firmware version. I would recommend for you to do an update of the Firmware of the device. This will fix some possible glitches that the unit might be experiencing, as well as provide you with the latest features of the unit and also stabilize the Network Drive by having the most recent version of it. You can attempt to update either automatically or manually, by following the steps on the next Knowledge Base Article:
