Hi taz2,

Maybe you should upgrade the firmware version (1.06.20) of your WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player.

Please refer to the link given below on order to download the Firmware.

just got back. i will try the upgrade. i hope this works, i do not want to buy new media player now. i will get back to you when i get time to do this. much appreciated. thank you for your answer.

just did some research on firmware 1.06.20_L, looks like the download is for Latin America from release notes. will check for more information.

All new WD Passports use GPT (GUID Partition Table) which is not compatible with older WDTV Live / Live Plus (2009/2010) … they only support 2TB MBR

You say your friend has a WDBABX0000NBK-NESN firmware 103.07 ?
There was never a Firmware 103.07 for the WDTV Live/Live Plus
see release notes: WD TV Live & Plus HD Media Player: Update Firmware

I personally think your friend has a later model WDTV … you need to double check the model number and find out the Exact Firmware Revision he/she is running (on the WDTV go to ‘Setup’ then select ‘About’)

i checked my friends P/N # , you were right, his P/N # WDBYMN0000-00. i do not know what firmware he is using, he called and left me information on his P/N. i did a update on both of my media players to 1.06.42_B, they seem to be working good so far. but as you say, they do not recognize 4tb my passport. my friend are looking to buy the newer media player so it can use both wd book essential and my passport . thank you for the information. after doing some research, i felt it was not compatible with older WDTV Live / Live Plus, you confirmed it. thank you so much.

No probs … me personally, i’ve sold all my WDTV’s and am using a Raspberry Pi 3 (with Kodi Media Center Software) works fantastic, and fully supports my 4TB My Passport Ultra Portable USB HDD

Costs less than $100 for the full setup

i am going to look into that. sounds like a good set up. thanks for the information.

no worries  … i’d probably recommend installing LibreELEC (Kodi 17)

I tried it last night because a NEW HEVC (H.265) optimizations for the Raspberry Pi

Pretty impressed … tested a 1080p 5.1 Dolby Digital HEVC (H.265) movie, and it played perfectly !
