I just bought an EX4100 and read only after that it will not support 7200 RPM disks. Is this correct. I haven’t used or registered the unit, so if there is an issue with my Seagate SD300DM001 disks (which I intended to pull from my present server), I can return it.
7200rpm disks are not necessary – 5400 ones work fine (or whatever speed comes in them.) Put WD Red (NAS) drives in the unit.
I don’t care if they are necessary. I just want to know if they are usable. I have them. I don’t want to have to buy four new disks. I bought the NAS unit diskless precisely so I could use the disks I already have.
7200rpm drives and 10,000rpm drives are not supported at the time of this post. For additional information please refer to the WD My Cloud EX4100 hard drive compatibility list:
Thank you. That is the page that prompted me to ask the question. Note that WD lists only its own brand of disks. I find it difficult to believe that ONLY WD disks are usable. So, I am disposed to submit my question to users.
I don’t know if other brands are useable, but the 7200 rpm is not, according the WD moderator of forum. Doing homework before a purchase is always advisable it appears. Good luck with this issue.
I have used 4 x 7200 rpm disks in my EX4100 since day one with zero issues
I have mixed 2 x Seagate Enterprise NAS 6tb together with 2 x HGST helium 6Tb in raid 5
works like a charm
