Hi guys,
I just got a WD TV Live Plus and am loving it so far. I read through the FAQ (which gave me some info I was unaware of) and skimmed through the threads on here, but didn’t see an answer to my issue.
I have my WDTV running to my TV via HDMI and my receiver via component. If I turn on “stereo” in the audio settings, I can hear the sound out of my TV speakers (via HDMI). If I turn it to digital, I get nothing. If I turn it to digital (without HDMI) the optical connection works and the sound works via my receiver.
Is there any way to have it put out digital audio via HDMI and optical, or do I have to pick one or the other? My receiver doesn’t support HDMI, so it’s a bit of a pain having to change my audio settings every time I switch between TV speakers and surround.
Also, what seems to be the most popular way of streaming stuff? Right now I have it streaming from my desktop over a wired 10/100 network and haven’t noticed any issues; it’s been rock solid. The only thing I don’t like as much as I thought I would is it’s a little cumbersome to find the computer, login, find the folder, then find the file every time. I came from WMC Extender, which made things easier IMO.
Is it more intuitive if I just get an external 1TB HDD and hook it up to the WDTV? And can I drag/drop files from my PC to that drive if it’s conencted to the networked WDTV without having to unplug it and hook it up via USB?
Thanks! I’m sure I’ll have more as I dive deeper in to this bad boy.
