Apologies if this is a repeat thread.
The infamous red icon pops up on my files that I want to access on my WD passport for MAC.
All files are from old MAC backup, through TM. Trying to access on my new MAC…
Have tried to changed permissions to read & write but to no avail.
Any advice how to overcome this headache much appreciated.

If restored folders or files display a red circle and cannot be opened, it means that you don’t have the permissions needed to access the files. This typically occurs when files that were created on one computer are restored to a different Mac computer. As you have already tried changing permissions but it did not resolve the issue, You may try contacting apple for further help.
