An error occured while reconnecting S: to \\MYCLOUD\

I tried do connect my Windows10 to my WDCloud with a USB-USB c cable and got following message.
Until now connecting to the WD MyCloud via WiFi was no problem.
Because I was unable to access my PC to the WD SmartWare via WiFi i am now trying to do it with cable.

I can hear the connection when plugging in hte USB cable but the drive does not show up. Tried both hard and soft reset of WD Drive but light on drive still flash only orange.

You cannot connect a computer the My Cloud using a USB cable. The USB port on the My Cloud is not designed for such a connection, it is only designed to allow users to connect USB hard drives.

The My Cloud is network attached storage device (NAS). You can connect a computer, which has a networking port, directly to the My Cloud networking port to access it if one does not have a network router or network switch available.

Edit to add: If one’s computer does not have a networking port one can buy USB or USB-C to Ethernet adapter which should allow one to connect a computer to the My Cloud’s networking port.

Thanks Bennor. I’ll get a USB to Ethernet adapter.

Will this work? I never thought of that before

Will using a USB to Ethernet adapter work to access a My Cloud on the local network? Yes.

I have two older laptops that each are using a USB to Ethernet adapter (USB 3.0 to 1 Gigabit) to connect to a local network My Cloud and other local network devices. No problems. They work like any other network adapter (wired or WiFi).

Worked like a charm :+1:
