Aspect ratio problem on playback

When I do a video capture from my VCR, I set it as 16:9. The WD media player is set for wide screen, as is my TV.

When I play the video through the media player, I get what looks like a 4:3 picture in the middle, and gray bands on either side. The WD home screen fills the whole screen of my tv.

What do I need to do to get my video files to display full screen on my tv?

If the CONTENT is 4:3, it will be displayed as 4:3. 

If the CONTENT is 16:9, it will be displayed as 16:9.   

There is no way to STRETCH 4:3 to 16:9 using the WDTV.
