Wdtvlive gen3
Latest firmware but also issue was before
I have wierd problem when streaming avi video over wlan which is 300mbit n router dlink dir-655 video lags and not working properly. Every other format. Mkv mp4 m4v is working fine. Lenght of video file as size is not real problem because small or big file avi just lags. First i tought it was my router but when i changed it problem still persist. Laptop that same media from same source is playing fine. Just something that I noticed same avi file that lags over wlan when connected through usb is playing fine. Sonit must be some problem with wlan of wdtv live. Bandwith of my network at home when exchanging things between pc and wdtv is 11 Mb per sec. so speed is good because if I can play. Mkv 8Gb file through same wlan with no problem avi from 350Mb create huge problem.
Please help me. Sorry on my bad English.
Connect USB to WDTV with movie on it. Enable the Winshare on the WDTV.
Connect your Computer to the WDTVLIVE share folder and copy the file to your computer.
Look at the transfere rate (on win7- extend info) and report back.
Speed of copying between wd and pc is from 7.5 to 8.5 Mb/sec and the file was avi from 350 Mb. I realy don’t know how this is possible. Move total from 750 Mb lags in avi format but movie mkv 8Gb works fine. My opinion is that this is firmware related issue and maybe some caching of movie avi format through wlan is not working. I previously had wdtv live gen 2 with wlan stick and it was working fine. I really don’t know what else to do.
then try to remux the avi into mkv/mp4. Somethimes this helps, expecial with .flv videos this had helped me to play some .flv´s faster (start) and be able to wind fastforward in the movie. FLV=stuttering → mkv=smooth.
i explained it over in this thread, you have to use the passthrough for the audio too:
Thx mate for you solution but I have 1.3 TB of multimedia and half of that media is avi it would be virtually impossible to recode all media. I bought this device to play all media not just some. So I will hope that wd staff will see this problem and in future firmwares release a patch. Thx
no, not recode, reMUX! This means: you only have to “copy” the video/audio stream into another container.
Ok i will try to do this. Thx
It appears to be this bug which hasn’t been fixed yet.
OMG! Another unattended bug on the SMP …
thx for the link
Good that i stopped using the archaic container format “AVI” many years ago.

Could you please give a brief how-to on that? Or a link to one? Thanks in advance!
-
download MKVToolnix for your system
-
start mmg
-
add AVI (add external subs if present)
-
click on start muxing.
Awesome, thank you!
