I noticed my backdrop images were appearing low quality on my tv hooked to my live smp and went and checked the .backdrop folders and noticed that all the movie backdrop images (and some TV shows) were all 780 x 439. I went and checked the actual database websites and they have high definition versions of the same backdrop, I was just wondering has anyone else come across this issue and found a fix, because I really do not want to have to manually add all the backdrops with higher resolution counterparts.
Look in the XML files.
The URL’s to the images are shown there.
Go download *THOSE* URLs and you will see the actual resolution the WD is downloading.
I’ve only seen what you describe with MOVIES because TMDB requires (as part of their license) that appliances access the content via a CACHE, and the CACHED images be smaller.
I have not seen this with TV shows, though.
I have looked at the xml files, and the links to the backdrops on the xml files do not have ‘original’ in them and so it downloads a lower res file. For example, dark knight back drop manually gotten from tmdb 1920 x 1080 http://cf2.imgobject.com/t/p/ origina l/nnMC0BM6XbjIIrT4miYmMtPGcQV.jpg, link to same backdrop in the xml file http://cf2.imgobject.com/t/p/w780/nnMC0BM6XbjIIrT4miYmMtPGcQV.jpg. I’m not exactly sure why the xmls do not scrape the proper image, or whether this may have something to do with the cache, I might try deleting all the .backdrop folders and wiping the cache (powering it off an so on) but I don’t think it will do much if the the link itself is to a lower resolution file.
As I said above, the TMDB license (the provider of the data and artwork) requires it.
Ah okay, **bleep** that **bleep**. I manually added a couple of HD backdrops and they look insanely better…
Could you please advise/describe process of adding manually HD backdrops. Do you need to edit xml file or just place HD graphics in some specific folder location and xml will track this down (considering that graphic name/link didn’t change).
Can I assume that same will apply to thumb graphic if for example I would like to change the default one (1st listed in xml file) with another one?
Cheers,
What *I* do is edit he XML file that the WD generates, and modify the URL so that it uses the High-Resolution version.
The THUMBNAIL or POSTER section, as far as I can tell, is completely ignored… The WD is only using the file it downloads.
