BBC iPlayer sound

I have my WDTV Live player connected to my surround sound via optical cable which works fine except for when using the BBC iPlayer.

My sound setup is optical passthrough, which it seems that the BBC player does not like, so I get no sound.  The only way around this is to set the sound option to Stereo.  Whilst this is a valid workaround, it’s a pain, as I have to keep changing the sound setting back if I want surround sound for films and other non-bbc player media.

Anyone else getting this issue?

I experience the same problem. I have optical output to a Beresford DAC. I don’t know what type of audio signal BBC transmit. Can only think it is one my DAC cannot handle as the output is a crackle the same as when a 5.1 channel signal is transmitted.
