Hi,
What is the best way to stream movies/music ect to my wdtv live streaming from my nas, (3TB MBL live)
ive done some transferre speed tests and i can get 3.5 - 4.0MB per second rates to my wdtv live across my network,
playing movies directly across my network does not stutter or have any problems thrus far, however im seeing people
on here talking about twonky media server enabled on there nas and using that, i have this disabled, im just wondering
if im streaming my movies correctly, what is the proper way to stream stuff to my wdtv device?
Thx
Using nfs from the nas is the easyest way and most effect.
It is more then fast enough to stream 1080p without drop outs.
But if what you got now works and you got no dropouts then leave it be as they say.
No need to mess with what working perfectly.

Hi,
Cool so im doing it correctly then, and you say that 3.5 - 4.0 MB per second is fast enough to stream 1080 ND content is fast enough not to drop out?
ahh cool you edited the orignal post, 2nd edition was easier to understand
thx pal
If you have any problems just check to see if nfs is on in the nas.
You can turn see linux shares in network settings on the wd.
The only hicup is if you have a crappy router which can slow anything down.
Hi,
i have 2 routers on my network, although one is used as a wi-fi extender/passthrough to extend the range of my wifi
to the other side of my house where my wdtv is situated.
basicly i have a virgin super hub (uk) which feeds my 100mbit broadband, behind this i have my gigbit switch, my 2 mbl’s are plugged into the switch as is my pc, i also have another router with wi-fi connected to the switch from a nic port via a 20meter cat5e cable, this is in another room.
i have disabled the 2nd routers firewall and dchp and give it a static ip on the same domain as my super hub, so it becomes a straight passthrough wifi switch, which extends my wi-fi range all over my house.
which ever router i connect to im always on my own network and not 2 different networks from each router, i have access to all my network which ever router i connect to.
this setup works well, and was not expensive at all.
thx for the help.
Nice
The only potental problem i see is that if your connected to a router that being used as a externder and its conected to the primary router by wifi you going to loose half the bandwidth.
But iam guess from your setup you likely already know that.
Hi,
Nah, that wont happen, both routers are connected by cat5E cable.
router 2 NIC to switch NIC
i basicly use main internet wi-fi for laptop and upstair pc connection and router 2 wi-fi for wdtv, smartphone, tablet connections, This means both routers get full 100mbit internet and best applicable wi-fi at all times.
if you mean internet related speed from the wi-fi, ya this will never hit 100bit, at best it gets 60MB per second from speedtest when close to the router via wifi, but in the real world it never sustains this speed.
