Brand new My Passport not recognised by Mac

I just bought a new My Passport 1T external harddrive, but when i tried to connect it to my Macbook Pro my Mac couldn’t recognize it. It had not been connected to any other PC or Mac before.

I then tried to connect My Passport to my friends Macbook Air and that worked perfectly. I know there is nothing wrong with my USBports, since i troed connecting several flash drives to my Mac and that worked perfectly.

I have tried finding it through the disk utility app and it doesn’t show there either.

I really don’t understand why my Mac can’t recognize the Passport, especially when my friend’s Mac had no difficulty finding it.

Can someone please help me?

That’s what i have tried before; Disk utility. The problem is i can’t choose the disk there, because my Mac acts like there is no disk connected so it doesn’t show.
