Bug: Subtitles during black!

I was wondering if anyone else is facing this issue…

Whenever I have a few seconds of black during a film… my WDTV Live Hub ignores the (.srt) subtitles embedded in the .mkv for that period.

If a subtitle occurs just before the movie goes into black and is supposed to go off after 2 seconds into the black… it doesn’t. It stays on till the video comes out of black… and the other subtitles that were supposed to have appeared during the black period (which is a duration of around 15 seconds)… are skipped.

Wierd.

Yeah, that IS weird.   Since the HUB doesn’t know BLACK from any other particular color…

So I suppose it’s doing this on multiple titles?

Nope. Not multiple titles.

My .mkv has only 1 subtitle file.

I assumed that even though the scenes that are ‘black’… it is still ‘part of the video’ and should (technically) make no difference. But it is only when the picture goes into black that the subtitles act all funny.

The subtitle… is plain ol’ text based .srt file encoded in UTF-8… could that have anything to do with it?

Or perhaps it some thing to do with the Feng Shiu of the location of my WDTV Live Hub… Ha ha.

By multiple titles, I should have said “Multiple Movies.”

The file being plain-vanilla UTF-8 text is what it SHOULD be.

But, if it’s just using the traditional Western alphabet, you could try just back up the file and re-save it with ANSI encoding to see if that makes a difference (but keep the UTF-8 file handy in case there’s odd characters somewhere…)

Haven’t played another film that had as much black spots… or rather a one that had dialogue over the black spots.

Yeah. I’m gonna try reuxing the mkv again tomorrow. Will post results if anything different.

Thanks
