I can’t find an answer to this question anywhere on the Internet. If someone can definitively say that the answer is yes, I plan to go buy a WD TV Live Plus today.
What I want to do is permanently attach a 1TB USB external hard drive to a WD TV Live Plus. This drive will be formatted NTSF because it will have files that are larger than FAT32 will allow.
I want to be able to download files on my Macbook and then wirelessly transfer them to the hard drive that’s attached to the WD TV. Is this possible?
I have read that it’s easy to do with Windows 7, but I can’t get a definitive answer for Macs. Can anyone answer this for me? Your help would be much appreciated.
This process should work, it’s pretty normal sharing techniques.
However, my 2 USB drives on the WDTV do show up, but doesn’t allow writing to it. Dragging a file doesn’t not copy ro either one. I’m thinking it’s a permission/ownership issue, but I really need the official setup parameters.
I have:
USB 1 - Mac OS Extended Filesystem
USB 2 - Mac OS Extended Filesystem partition and a FAT32 partition.
The player can mount and play all of the files on these drives/partitions.
I need to know what magic configuration is that will allow me to copy to/write to any of these drives from my Mac on the network.
What LOGIN name/password should the WDTV be set to?
What Filesystem HAS to be used, if any? (I ca see all of them on the Mac)
What workgroup does it HAVE TO be in? (I can see the drive on the Mac already.)
Does ownership username have any play here?
What is the official documented process from WDTV?
