Cannot Delete/Edit files of WD BOOK

I recently bought and set up my new 8TB MY BOOK, I didn’t format it…because it didn’t prompt me to.
I consolidated my older WD drives onto the new drive and everything was working great.
Accidentally, the drive lost power while copying files because of loose plug.

After that, I wan’t allowed to open MY BOOK due to access restrictions. I went into the properties and opened up the sharing restrictions and selected Allow all info to everyone. But I still can’t edit the folders/files or delete any info.
The right click delete option is unavailable, the delete button doesn’t work, I cant click and drag into the Recycling Bin.

I also ran a scan to fix any issues, that did nothing. I have reviewed the forum and can’t seem to find a solution.

I should note that the Computer Folder reads MY BOOK and under it now says EXFAT. I never noticed that before and I am not a MAC user, could that setting be an issue?

I would hate to reformat at this point but maybe that is my only choice
Appreciate any assistance. Thank you

Hello,

How is the drive showing under disk management?

My Book (F)
7452GB exFAT
Healthy (Primary Partition)

I also ran WD Utilities. All Good
Still cant edit delete or copy files. When I tried to overwrite or copy a file.
I get, “Error 0x80071AC3: The operation could not be completed because the volume is dirty. Please run chkdsk and try again.” so I did that too, although it didnt seem to do much other than open and close a dialog box.

Appreciate your help

Hi,
I just read your post right now.
I just had the same inconvenience and I wonder if you found a solution apart formatting the hd.
LEt me know.
Thanks

Nope, I had to format the drive. After I did that, the problem went away.
Its been fine ever since.
Regards

I am receiving this message as well. Can someone from WD provide a response please?

I’m getting this same message on an 8TB drive i use for backups.

I can’t just ‘reformat’ this.

Any working solutions or responses from WD regarding this mission critical ERROR 0X80071AC3?

Thanks in advance for letting me know.
Cheers,
Colin

NO FIX

While everone is freaking out with this pandemic, an identical anomaly as the original post just happened to me today.

All I can do is copy off the 8TB WD Mybook external hard drive. I’ve did my research… over a year later there is no fix to this situation across multiple forums and knowledgeable techs.

Make maters worse the local computer store here in Michigan wont accept my cash to buy another 8TB western digital hard to copy over and adjust my media over to.

I want to be able to modify and adjust all my media, God forbid, the event I get sick so i can possibly pass my PG media to my family… Instead I got windows telling me my volume is dirty, Microcen telling me they’ll accept returns and will give cash back but wont accept my cash, a representative from the
bank on the phone jokingly tell me to spray my cash with Lysol, and a useless Western Digital drive storing the last 15 years of my life… I’m the one who left the safety of my house with a suppressed immune system putting myseld at a higher risk of being infected for a sort of emergency. You guys are all crazy.

These people I have given my money to over all these years and have supported to be better business all have failed me…

This happened to me and I can’t access any of my videos to edit in Premier Pro! I’ve emailed WD for help and was about to purchase another My Book for additional back up. So glad I didn’t now! There must be an easy fix for this.
