What WD My Cloud model do you have? What “app” are you looking for?
The lower end WD My Cloud devices do not have “apps” on the Dashboard. If one needs the WD My Cloud app(s) and or the WD Photo app for their devices they can download and install them.
WD My Cloud Desktop for Windows
WD My Cloud on the App Store on iTunes - Apple
WD Photos on the App Store on iTunes - Apple
I, and most likely the aforepostment, have recieved an email which appears to be from Western Digital. (Funny thing is, I don’t recall ever registering my product nor have I registered into this forum until now) The email states that “Anti-Virus Essentials” software is now available for “MY Cloud”. The install steps first has me/us log in to the dashboard(which I’ve done), and secondly click on the “Add an App” icon whereas you can complete the process by selecting and installing the anti-virus app. I have covered all cracks and crevices of dashboard and find no “Add an App”. Thanks for anyones help in this matter
As indicated before the 3rd party apps are not available (or officially supported) on the lower end WD My Cloud models. There are several WD My Cloud models that do support a variety of 3rd party apps. See the following for more information on several of those models and how to install those 3rd party apps:
WD Learning Center - WD My Cloud Mirror - Third Party Apps
WD Learning Center - WD My Cloud EX4 - Third Party Apps

Thanks for responding. All it says is its My Cloud 4TB.
I got an email from Western Digital ‘My Cloud NAS now featuring Anti-Virus Essentials software’ which needs my apps on the dashboard.
I’m guessing I can’t install on my version or is there some othe way?

Did the email list the supported WD My Cloud models? Often they put the supported models in the fine print of the email.
There is no “official” WD supported way to install the 3rd party modules on the lower end WD My Cloud units until WD either posts an official way to their website or pushes out a firmware update for the lower end My Clouds that includes Dashboard links to installing the 3rd party modules like the Anti-Virus Essentials. Unofficially it may be possible to push a 3rd party module, if someone posts a link to it, via SSH to a lower end WD My Cloud but the issue is can the lower end units with their low end processors and RAM capacities handle running some or all of the 3rd party modules. One could try to compile a 3rd party module from the GPL code that is available for download on certain WD My Cloud units (like the My Cloud DL2100 3rd party downloads) and upload it to their lower end WD My Cloud via SSH.
I received this email as well this morning, and I came here wondering about it.
The following are listed at the very bottom as being supported:
• My Cloud Mirror |
I’m a My Cloud T3 owner and it wasn’t obvious, as I was clearing the sleep from my eyes, that this wasn’t directed at me - particularly since the picture next to it has a picture of what appears to be a rather thicker My Cloud than the one I own, but similar enough that I thought that this applied to me as well.
This isn’t a complaint to say that WD shouldn’t send me useful email, or even email that is directed at NAS users but which don’t particularly apply to me. However, it is to say that their email should make it far more clear, at the very top, to whom they are addressing.
No hurt feelings, no outrage, no ranting - just some friendly advice. I was searching and searching for 10 minutes before I caught on and saw that this doesn’t apply in any way to me.

Interestingly enough if one goes and looks at the 3rd party apps GPL WDMyCloud_NAS_Apps_GPL_20150731.tar.gz download file that is available for certain WD My Cloud models they’ll see the following list under “Build the App” in the WDMyCloud_NAS_Apps_GPL_ReleaseNote.txt file.
3.1 using mksapkg to create the apps that could be install in the Web UI.
3.1.1 using “./mksapkg -h” to check the support modules
Supported model_name:
WDMyCloudEX4
WDMyCloudEX2
WDMyCloudMirror
WDMyCloud
WDMyCloudEX4100
WDMyCloudDL4100
WDMyCloudEX2100
WDMyCloudDL2100
WDMyCloudMirrorGen2
So it may be possible to build one or all of the app modules for the entry WD My Cloud models. Don’t know how you install it however, without the Dashboard web UI with the module option available, upload through the firmware bin file manual upload? Perhaps someone way more knowledgeable than I can explain how such modules can be “installed” through the SSH connection.
That same release notes file lists the following modules:
aMule-2.2.6.tar.gz
clamav-0.98.4-rc1.tar.gz
Dropbox_v1.10_GPL.tar.gz
icecast-pkg-2.3.2.tar.gz
Joomla-2.5.6.tar.gz
phpBB-3.0.9.tar.gz
phpMyAdmin-3.5.1.tar.gz
SqueezeCenter-7.7.2.tgz
transmission-2.84.tar.gz
wordpress-3.5.2.tar.gz
WD is doing lousy job in supporting!
When I take a look at the comparison matrix, I can not conclude that the WD Mycloud is not supporting (by the manufacturer firmware) the third party apps,
http://support.wdc.com/KnowledgeBase/answer.aspx?ID=11425
Home users looking for simplicity (even Small enterprises), only few will enable SSH and start playing around,
You need to be clear: who will support the third party,?
Actually even with the matrix above"Integrated Third-party Apps" is not supported with mirror product line.
I will return the Mycloud, I am looking to sync cloud storage like S3 at the mycloud box, not through using a software running on a server.
