I purchased a My Book Live 2TB to use as backup for our computers and since I needed to reboot our Sony Vaio (cleen and reinstall the c-disc) I made a backup of the computer to the WD using smartware. I can now, after reinstalling everything on the computer see that there is a backup on My book live but I can not (using the smartware) restore them! If I choose restore I can choose the backup but I can’t choose to restore into original place, only to a new folder and if I do so, I do not get all the files I have made backup of.
Does anyone understand what I mean (I’m not so good at this) and please help me? If I go into Timemachine I can see that there is a backup of my computer of correct size but I can still not access it.
The option to restore to the original place only works when you are restoring the files on the same PC/Windows installation. Check if the files that were not backed up are not compatible with Smartware, check the link below for that.
I must say I feel fooled. My biggest need for a backup is when I need to reinstall Windows which seems to happen once every year or so. If I can’t use WB backup for that then this is not the product that I need :(. Not well spent money then. Luckily I could restore most of my files from windows backup on the D-partition but some of my latest photos were lost. I would still like a solution to restore from the WB backup! I am not happy!
