Can't use 2 drives simultaneously - Windows 7

I’m having a problem connecting 2 My Book Essential external hard drives simultaneously to my computer (Windows 7). I can connect them separetely and Windows will recognize them, but when I try to connect the second one it does not recognize the hard disk, just the WD SmartWare as a CD drive (??).

I think this is some conflict problem, but how can I solve it? I’ve tried to update their drives but none was found.

They came from the factory with the same unique ID.  Windows thinks it’s the same disk.

If there’s no data on the drive yet, reformatting one of them will fix it.

Otherwise, going into Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management and setting the second drive to “Online” should get you back in business until the drives are disconnected.
