Changed router settings and 2TB mybooklive no longer can be seen on network

I have cycled the router and drive several times.  The light on the drive does eventually turn solid green.  My windows vista computer can no longer find it a remap it. The WD discovery tool fails to find the drive.  My sonos player fails to find the network drive. WD2Go can tell it is offline.

How do I get it recognized again, and have access to the 500GB of data stored.

Hi, as a troubleshooting step, try connecting the My Book Live Ethernet cable directly to the PC, and see if it is recognized there.

Thanks for the response, but it did not seem to recognize anything via the ethernet input.

I removed the prior mapped x/y drives and am trying to see if it will work, as WD advised me.

I did not expect changing my IP to impact wired network connections.  It also impacted the drive being access remotely.

What change to your IP did you do? Did you change the IP that your ISP provides you?  Did you change the IP of the router? Did you change the assigned IP of the MBL?  what exactly?

Was your MBL using a DHCP or Static IP ? The settings for this are in Dashboard.  If it was static and you changed the avaliblity of that IP address, then you must change it back.

The number one way of figuring out how to solve a problem is to identify what caused it. And that means retracing your steps; undoing everything you did.

i changed my router IP from xxx.xxx.2.x to xxx.xxxx.3.x so I can VPN from my home network.

was your MBL set up with a static IP?  if so, then that is what your problem is. When you changed the IP of the router to 192.168.3.1 it also changed the IP address of the devices which connec to it. For example, your computer used to be assigned 192.168.1.X, now it would be assigned 192.168.3.Y.  Same goes for the MBL.  But if the settings in the MBL were set to static, then it is still only allowing the router to talk to it on 192.168.1.Z.

Reverse what you did and see if you can get your connection back.

I did a default setup of MBL, so if it was static, than that makes sense.

Currently after removing the mapped drives from my computer, and cycling the MBL, after overnight, the light is still blue, has not gone green again.

If the static ip is the issue, I will adjust tonight, but if there is something else, please advise and Thanks.

Your primary objective should be to reverse the steps you previously did which caused the problem; ie. your router configuration.

Once you have everything back to the way it was, then your MBL should work again. Then you can try to isolate what caused the problem by introducing one step at a time and check what happens.

In the network setup of the MBL you can specify static or not. With the router configuration you wish to use, you should make the MBL static and speficy the correct information.  Make sure you do not make any mistakes before you save the configuration or else you will make the MBL undetectable by teh network.  The router and teh MBL must talk to one another and so they must know each other’s addresses.

I’ll try it later.

Thanks.

i changed from static to dynamic and I think I got it.  I have to get my network all set now to know for sure, but you helped likely with using dynamic settings.  NOt sure why it was set for static, unless that is the default.
