Cloning a 1 TB caviar black hdd from a smaller drive

I recently purchased a new 1 TB caviar black SATA drive through dell to replace the 70 gb hdd in my dell computer and would like to clone the new drive instead of reinstalling all my software. First, I would like to know if i can use an external USB enclosure? Or does it need to be hooked to the mother board as a slave drive ? Second, is the Acronis software that isavailable on the Western Digital website the best way to go for the cloning process? Or is there something better? ( by better i really mean easier).any help, info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am no dummy but am a little nefvous because i have never done this before.

best method is by connecting the drive as secondary on the mother board

Acronis might not be the best but is not such a bad one

give it a try

Thank you Wizer. I beleive i read somewhere that SATA drives are automatically detected can you tell me if this is true?
Or do i need to set jumpers on the drive?

The drive will be detected if the computer shows the drive

there’s no need for special configuration
