Complete amateur with a massive problem

hi.

Recently bought a mybook live 2tb to backup my Imac to as it was going in to get the harddrive replaced.

i wanted to start with a fresh operating system and just reinstall my files when i got the machine back.

i did a backup using Time Machine (almost 550gb) to the Time Machine file on the Mybook live. i viewed the files thru timemachine before i took the Imac into have the harddrive replaced and they were all there and intact.

When i got home and tried to access the timemachine backup, it wont let me. it says the file is an IMac.sparsebundle and is curupt. i managed to open the backup file and view the contents which eare there, but it says its a casesensitive, journalled file.

i spoke to apple and they helped all they could, but said cause the file was currupt on an external harddrive they couldnt do anything. we tried repairing it with disk utility, just came up with a load of errors.

i started a case resolution via the website with WD on 18/11/13 but havent had a response yet and every time i phone up the support line i get cut off. (case [Deleted for privacy - Trancer])

i know the files are on the drive casue the sparsebundle is a 500gb file and when i go into it i can see my files, but when i try to drag and drop them it says something about wrong case sensitivity for a backup file.

any ideas would be apreciated as im not finding WD very helpful.

this harddrive has all my files trapped on it and not sure how to get it back off.

cheers

Hello,

Are you using the same version of the time machine to restore the files or is a new one?

If you did the backup with the software, you will need to use the same software to retrieve the files.

try using filezilla, just make sure ftp is enabled in the mybooklive webUI.

yes im using the smae version of time machine. i did my first (and only) time machine back up before i got the hard drive replaced.

its a ethernet drive, is there anyway of mounting the hard drive so i can see it in finder apart from as a shared drive?

i down loaded filezilla, but not sure it will solve my problem as i cant see the drive in finder or disk utility.

is it right that i cant see the drive in finder apart from as shared drive? what happend to the days of connecting a drive and it showing up in devices? the conection to it seems very intermitant.

any help would be greatly apreciated.
