Connected to network once, now never again

I am connecting to my WDTV Live via wireless.  I’m using  this wifi adapter, which is not “officially” on the supported list though everyone on amazon says it works beautifully with the newer WDTV live firmwares.

I’m currently running  the latest firmware.

I was able to connect to my network no problem.  It found my SSID, I entered my password, and I was connected.

Then I turned the unit off, and upon rebooting I had no network connection.  When I try to go through network setup again, it finds my SSID just fine, but when it tries to connect it just says “could not connect”.

Any ideas?  From my experiences with my vanillia WDTV Live I should have known better than to turn one of these things off on the rare occasion that it’s actually working properly.

Regardless of what people on Amazon say, I think you are asking for trouble by not using an approved adapter. WD will not help you if you are not using an approved adapter. In addition, you should know that in virtually all cases, network problems are the result of something in your system and it are not the fault of the WD box.

I went ahead and pickedu p one of the officially supported adapters (Airlink101 AWLL5077) but I still get the same error…“cannot connect to network”.

Everything else on my network connects fine.

Huh, I switched USB ports (from the top one to the back one) and reset the device and now it works.  Crazy weird, this thing is.

Don’t know if this will make a difference but I’m just curious.

Some USB sticks are curiosly prone to position due to how the antenae are built.

Try putting it back in the original port, confirm it DOES NOT work, and then rotate the Live around such that the adapter is in the same position and orientation as if it were plugged into the OTHER port, and see if it makes a difference?
