Before I take the plunge and replace my WD 2 TB USB attached MY Book external drive with a "My Cloud"version, …
Is there any way for me to attach my current “My Book USB drive” to my local Ethernet network so that I might access it over the network ?
I don’t really need the “cloud” feature as I only access it from my pc when I am at home.
But I will purchase a “My Cloud” if that is the only way.
I understand that I can attach it to my pc and then share it on the network.
But I really don’t have the room for it where my pc currently resides.
But I DO, have room near my router.
Just curious if anyone else has had a need to this and if so if anyone has figured out how to do it.
If your router supports USB hard drive sharing. However, your router may not be compatible with your particular unit even if it does support said feature. You would need to try it out.
On the other hand, your unit would no longer be able to run automatic backups via WD Backup or WD SmartWare, which means you would need a different backup software.
Good morning and thanks for the reply.
Good thoughts.
Things I did not think of.
Appreciate it.

Please advise of the reason why WB Backup software will not recognize a WD My Book attached to a network share. Has anyone figured out how to get around this issue? Does WD offer a backup software that will work in this common scenario?
