Copy from EX2 to a second EX2

Hi there, I have a EX2 8TB and I have bought one for my mother as well. Hers is a 6TB version. I am wondering what is the best way to copy all the files I have on my EX2 onto hers? I am running in RAID 1 format. Can I simply remove one of the drives from my EX2, and insert one of her drives and then my files would be mirrored onto her empty drive? Or is there a better way? Thanks!

Hi there and welcome to the WD community.

I haven’t tried this, but I would not do this by swapping drives since both units have different sizes, lets see if there is another user that can share some tips and information on this matter.

I hope someone replies with a good idea!  If it helps, mine has just under 2TB of files on it currently.

Thanks!

Khira,

If you’re familiar with Unix/Linux commands, you can enable ssh on both devices and then use rsync to migrate the data over to the new NAS.  I am in the process of doing just that.  I don’t have the exact syntax right at the moment, but if you’re intrested in doing this, I can post the syntax and steps that you need to do.

Hi Daryl,

Thank you for your offer, but I took the long slow road of copying onto an external drive, then copying back onto the new NAS. Thanks again for your offer.

Cheers

Why didn’t you just create a backup job between the two ex2 and then on the second one you just do the structure as you like ?
