Copy from USB to EX2 slow even with rsync

I have an EX2 and wanted to fill it with data from a WD My Book Essential with USB 3.0.
First I used the Desktop software from WD but it always failed for large folders with the error the the folder names changed during copy. I tried it several times and gave up on this software.

Then I enabled SSH logged in and started copying the wanted folders using rysnc.
As of now everything works fine except for speed.

Large files are only copied with an average speed between 9-10 MB/s according to rsync.
I thought maybe the My Book attached is that slow and attached to a macbook, but there it copied a folder of 50GB in seconds.

So the Ex2 seems to be the problem.

Try going to the Apps menu on the EX2 and use the Web File viewer app that is built in. It will allow you to copy or move files from the USB to the EX2 without having to use a computer to control the transfer. You will take advantage of the full speed of USB 3.0

Hey thanks for the tip. Tried it now but it also seems to be a bit clunky. Every bit of scrolling turns the screen dark. I was not able to select multiple folders in this view and after I select the move command and started a move where do I see any progress?

I’m having the same issue. I even used the WD Mycloud desktop app (which I understand is just an GUI into SSH). I get the “folders name has changed error”. Trying to move the files via Finder on mac is painfully slow over the network and will fail after 12+ hours of transferring.

I’ve got about 200 gigs of files I need to transfer over - seems silly it’s this difficult. I’ll try the web file viewer but I see there was an issue with that as well.

The web file viewer as I said shows no progress so you never know when it’s done.
In addition sometimes the “Move” command in the web file viewer sometimes really moves a folder by removing it from the old location and sometimes it only copies the folder leaving it at the old location.
So basically all software solutions from WD for the simplest file operations don’t work as expected.
And it leaves me with a slow but reliable rsync via ssh. :unamused:

this solution worked for me :
