Hi,
I am new to this WD MY Cloud 3TB and really struggling to get used to it.
I saw its promotional videos in which it says to back your data easily with this NAS Drive.
Rightnow If I try to setup my backup, the WD Smartware gives the option to select My BOOK Essential as the source drive but my Target Drive is not shown in this screen rather there come this message " You need to buy an Activation Code"
I am a bit frustrated that to have the option of backup my data, I will have to buy the Smartware Pro License ?
Can Anyone explain what is this and what should I do to backup my WD Essentail at WD MYCloud 3TB ?
The device is shown in the network and accessible through WD MyCloud Software but when I open the backup tab in WD Smartware, the device does not show there. Only a Dropbox is shown there with a message to purchase a Pro License.
Do I really need to buy the pro license to see my drive in WD Smartware ?
Smartware is PC only. If you have a Mac - use TimeMachine.
Yes it can backup to Dropbox and the My Cloud.
For those having issues finding the My Cloud drive, you do not need to buy a license to see the drive. It may be that something on your network is blocking the service that Smartware uses to detect the MyCloud. It uses something called uPnP. If your network has it turned off that could be a reason why. Also, another reason could be that you have a firewall type program installed that is blocking this service. Our support group can easily help you determine this if you give them a call.
