Hi,

I purchased 1TB WD external HDD (My Book Esential USB 3.0) in India on December 2010. The drive I got was faulty and after lot of follow up with customer care I got the replacement.

The main reason I purchased the drive was that my existing computer does not have enough of space. So, it moved my several documents and family photos in it.

But now when I connect the HDD to computer I am unable to copy ot view files. Computer is able to recognize the HDD and I am able to see my folders. But most of the files/ photos within the folders are gone or not opening.

Please advise how to recover my data…

Please provide us with more details,

  • How did you transfer the data from your computer to the drive?

  • Did you use Smartware? If so, have you try retrieving the data?

  • Are you going to use this drive as a backup or as a additional storage location?
