I see that the DataVolume failure is a common problem with the Sharespace. I noticed that some people have rebuilt the array using SSH access, but although Putty lets me type in a username, admin, it will not accept the password, welc0me, and brings up an Access Denied message.
My unit is on FW 2.1.92.
Anyone got any bright ideas?
UPDATE:
I fixed it thanks to some of the advice in this thread - http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-ShareSpace/Datavolume-doesn-t-exist-message/td-p/4440/page/2
None of the solutions on that page worked per se, but googling around the subject and trying various things did the trick. If you’re suffering from the DataVolume doesn’t exist error, there is hope. DO NOT RESET THE SHARESPACE!
The data on 1 of the 4 drives had gone bad, but the RAID controller was just refusing to do anythign about it - hence the DataVolume failed error. The drive itself is fine. I think all i had to do was remove the offending drive using the ssh client and reboot. Post-reboot, I had to ‘clean’ the ‘bad’ drive and let it recover itself.
PS. SSH access requires the following username and password, I spent ages using admin and wondered what I was doing wrong:
username - root
password - welc0me
Any questions, please ask.
