Desktop PC sees MyBookLive fine, laptop fails -why?

Problem accessing WD Live

OK: I have a WD MYBookLive NAS attached to my network. I can use it from my desktop PC (as a mapped drive), but cannot connect properly from a laptop on the same network. (Windows 7).

The MyBookLive drive appears under Network  in Windows Explorer. If I right click this icon I can “View device webpage” and login, add shares etc. So the laptop can see the drive.

WD Smartware finds the drive - the home screen shows it to the right of the C: drive, and I can select shares from the drop-down menu. However, the Backup and Restore tabs are greyed out, so I can’t set up a backup.

Next I tried right-clicking the tray icon for the MyBookLive, and choosing MyBookLive,Map,(mysharename).  Up comes the Windows ‘Map Network Drive’ dialogue, offering to map to \MyBookLive(mysharename), but Windows reports that it can’t access that path.  Typing \MyBookLive\ into the address bar fails, too. (BTW the WD Twonky server icon flashes in and out of view in Windows Explorer).

So what’s going on? Clearly the laptop is seeing the drive, or I would not be able to open it’s web interface, edit shares etc. So why can’t Smartware use it for backups, and why can’t I map it? Any suggestions, please?

You can try mapping the My Book using WDlink, but to access the backup and retrieve tabs, try clicking on the my book live icon on the smartware home tab. Check the link below for the steps to use WDlink.
