Difficulty accessing files on my PC

I got my WD Live TV streamer a few days ago and hooked it up without any problems. I connected it to the router via a LAN cable and it told me that there was a more recent version of the firmware available, so I let it update itself and it seems to run fine. I can get internet services like Youtube and iPlayer without any problem and when I plug in an external hard drive via one of the USB ports it finds the video files plays them without any problem. What I am not sure about is whether I should be able to see and play files that are located on other computers in the house.  If I go into settings and click on network I can see the names of three user account names on my main PC plus my laptop (so I am guessing that it’s getting those details from the router since I have not used my laptop for a while?). When my main PC is running, if I go to Network Share there is an option called something like MICROSOFT SHARE or WINDOWS SHARE (I can’t remember exactly which and I’m at work now so I can’t check) – if I click on this I can see an option that looks like the user account that I am logged into on my main PC (running Windows 7) – but if I try to access this I have problems entering the username and password. When I enter the username and press submit, that seems to appear on the log in screen in the entry box but if I then move on to the password and type that in and press submit that does not seem to work. The password entry box on the log in screen looks like it still has an incorrect entry – I can tell from the number of *** symbols that it is not the password that I entered – I have tried loads of times, but every time I pressed submit what I had entered did not seem to have gone into the password entry box. Unsurprisingly, if I try to log on I get a message saying that the username and password have not been recognised. Does this issue sound familiar to anyone? Am I making a basic mistake of some kind? The TV streamer should be able to recognise and stream video files from my PC shouldn’t it? Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong will be gratefully received.

You might need to contact WD support for this one so they can guide you over the phone to setup the network.
