Direct Connection Hub to Mac

Okay so the other day I connected my ethernet cord to my Macbook Pro and to the Live Hub and was able to transfer files just fine. Go back to do the same today and the computer recognizes the device but the “Connection Failed.” Tried restarting both devices and switching cords, no dice. Can anybody help? I am assuming I have a crossover Cat5e cable since I was previously able to transfer files, but now I am not so sure.

Crossover would be correct. Are both the Mac and WD using static IPs?

Not sure, not sure how to check either. Does this matter if I dont want to connect to the internet but just transfer files? JW

It is not neccdesary that thei have static ip´s. But it might very helpful that they are in the same ip range, subnet and in the same workgroup.

If they don’t have static IPs, then how will they get DHCP addresses since neither device is connected to a DHCP server?
