DLNA issue/How to install Twonky?

Hi WD Staff.

The built in media server on the My Book Live Duo does not work with MKV-files on Samsung All Share (DLNA)-tv’s, which is why I bought my new Live Duo.

Could you either address this hugh issue (which is a big issue on all you NAS-drives due to old Twonky-versions) or advice on how to install the newest version of Twonky ie. 6.0.39 on the My Book Live Duo?

Thanks

Jonathan

Do you have a specific model number of the TV?

Do you have what exactly is in this MKV file (since that is just a container)?

Do other formats play to the TV?

To find the contents of an MKV, post the full TEXT output of MEDIAINFO for such a file.

Hi Tony.

  1. Yes my TV is a Samsung UE46C7000 (with newest firmware). I also have WD MBWE White Light with 2TB and Twonky 6.039, which works perfectly streaming MKVs - even +35 GB sized files over wireless.

  2. The MKV’s are of most general formats and encoding, x264, mp4, AVC with AC3 and DTS etc. I have hundreds of them in all formats, and none of the work. The error code is “Not supported file format”.

  3. Yes, AVI-files work fine, and so do pictures.

If you google around, this is general problem with the MBWE, which demands a newer Twonky version of 6.03+, but since you use another media server on the duo, I am not sure what to do.

Thanks.

2:   So your TV SEES the files, it just can’t play them?

If that’s the case, then the issue is with the file format.   None of the WD NAS boxes will TRANSCODE files like some media servers will.

If the TV is able to see the listing, then the WD Duo has done its job.

Its not that easy.

There is no need for transcoding since the tv perfectly accepts MKV’s (according to the specs and when using another media server such as Twonky +6), and since Twonky - Im sure - doest not transcode on  the MBWE…

What media server is on the duo precently and can you help with installing another one such as Twonky?
