Do I need Smartware Pro?

I don’t understand about Smartware Pro. I have a My Passport Ultra with WD Smartware which I have upgraded to Smartware Pro because that seemed to be the default option - but do I really need it? 

I would like to use the Ultra as the backup drive on three laptops, but I also want to use the WD Smartware for backing up files from my main laptop to a non-WD drive (for reasons of capacity on the Ultra drive).

Do I need to instal the WD Smartware on my main laptop so that I can back up from it to the non-WD drive? If so, how do I download it without having to pay for a new licence? At what point in the process do I use the activation code which I already have?

Hi there, 

You do need smartware pro to backup to a non WD drive with Smartware. You get 3 licensed for smartware pro with a passport ultra drive. You should be able to install the software on a second and third computer and activate those other licenses.
