It is well documented how the MyBook Studio II has disconnect problems on the Mac
but the solution turned out to be very simple: remove Drive Manager (which is only really needed to set the RAID mode). I have tried this on two MyBook Studio II units (each on a different Mac) and it worked on both; this made a highly troublesome drive into the reliable unit it should be.
I am surprised that Western Digital is risking its reputation when the fix is so simple; I lost a lot of time trying various things, but I really needed a reliable solution.
