Hello I dropped my MyCloud and I suspect the host adapter is damaged. NIC is steady green and flashing on the other side. The adapter LED stays red. The Drive is readable when I connect it to a PC sata cable and boot a computer. I cant read the contents in the PC OS. I can only see the various partitions. What are my options for recovering my data. Can I buy a new adapter and connect my drive to it?
You may want to contact WD directly as this is primarily a user to user support forum.

One can use the forum search feature, magnifying glass icon upper right to search for the numerous past discussions on how to attempt recovery of the data on the My Cloud hard drive if that hard drive has been removed from the My Cloud enclosure. The My Cloud drive uses Linux formatting and Windows may not properly read the drive without using third party drivers. One can use a Linux Boot Disc to attempt to access the My Cloud hard drive when that drive is connected to their computer using a USB adapter/docking station or internal SATA port. See the following link for more information on drivers or utilites to use on Windows to access Linux formatted hard drives.

Benor,
Thanks for the tip. I’m going to go the route of Linux.
Another option would be to buy an external USB (2/3) hard drive enclosure , the drive controllers in the enclosure normally allow you to access EXT3 or EXT4 formatted drives contents as normal on a windows system.
Wullailhut,
I didn’t realize that about the asic’s on such enclosures. I’ll have to put the drive in one that I have already. That is an even better solution for me at this time. Thanks man!
