Dts hd ma

Hello,

I currently have the WD TV model 2014 Reference WDBPUF0000NBK (European PAL Version) and I want to know is what the HD DTS is supported? My amp decode DTS HD & Dolby TrueHD without problems.

in the audio settings HDMI is well described but only Dolby TrueHD & DTS. Is the “DTS” said includes DTS and DTS HD?

Thanks for you’re replys and sorry for my bad english i used a translator.

Yes, DTS-HD is supported in Passthrough mode.

Thanks Tony,

then it’s normal that detected formats it is not indicated “DTS HD MA” but DTS only ? DTS HD MA is still decoded ?

yes, unfortunately normal

WD added DTS-MA support for passthrough, but never updated the menu

DTS-MA is done via passthrough only

if sterio mode is selected the WD decodes only the DTS portion, not the MA portion

Ok great thanks for you’re answer.

it’s a shame that WD have not updated menu for the “MA” I tested MKV with DTS HD MA track and my amp indicates DTS HD MASTR so it’s all good.

I hope an update for “MA” in the menu.

Thank again guys it helped me

It’s pretty easy to modify the HDMI Pass-Through “Manual Setup” to include DTS-MA  (via a simple theme edit)

example below …     (and here’s the theme:  http://www.mediafire.com/download/2ddqma56mb39fw9/DTSMA.zip  )

Yeah, that’s a decent cosmetic change…  but WD still needs to fix the menu.

There’s still the issue for people that do have a DTS-capable receiver but NOT DTS-HD capable – DTS-HD won’t work at all for them; it won’t even pass the core.

They need to allow selecting DTS but UNselecting DTS-HD.

Perhaps in a next firmware release they will do the change. Or it must suggest to their modification for DTS / DTS-HD MA

Since WD still can’t be bothered to add a simple black screensaver I’m using Joey’s modfied theme to replace the fidgety WD logo and also the Flixter ratings. If I would won’t this cosmetic change, could I install this mod over my already installed mod or would I have to merge the two mods into one zip and install this new mod from there?

Let me 1st say, i’m not doubting you … but can you explain this to me

I Have a 2014 WDTV Media Player & an old Teac DVR-301 … “Optical Audio” Connection to the WDTV

In WDTV Settings … selected Optical Pass-Through > Dolby Digital and DTS capable receiver

tried this sample clip:  Dolby TrueHD 5.1

http://dl.demo-world.eu/download_2d_trailers.php?filename=hd_dolby_countdown_v2_lossless-DWEU.m2ts

and this one: DTS-MA 5.1

http://dl.demo-world.eu/download_2d_trailers.php?filename=hd_thx_amazing_life_lossless-DWEU.m2ts

In both cases … i got sound through my Teac DVR-301 (led’s detected DD & DTS)

Now i know it isn’t true HD or MA … but the audio that came out (i’m not an audiophile, but) it did have “5.1 Channel Separation”  (ran around the room putting my ear to each speaker)

So, i guess the question i’m asking is … does the DTS-HD (DTS-MA) on a Non Capable Receiver “No Sound” only effect the HDMI connection ?

Because, i don’t have a problem with my setup via Optical.

Yes, because optical never supported DTS-HD MA, so the WD is forced to send Core Only regardless of the flavor of DTS when using optical.
