DX4000 - Recovery Started on day 3 of recovery

I started a recovery on my DX4000. The LCD “Recovery Started” and has displayed that for the past three days. I have cleaned the disks separately in disk part, and did the steps in order in the DX4000 manual. Unlocked the drives, recreated the storage, and am now on the recover storage. The LCD says “Recovery Started” and the drive LED’s are blinking. I am not sure if the recovery is actually taking place or if the process is hung somewhere. Has anyone experienced this, do I need to start over?

Thanks for any help.

I think something is wrong. It really takes around 5 hours. You still have the recovery PC connected where you are hitting next and following the directions correct?

If so, I suggest you look at the log files in a on the thumb drive that you used to recreate Storage. At the very end of the file will be the relevant information. If you have 2 drives it will say it created a raid 1 volume. If you have more than 2 drives it will say it successfully created a Raid 5 volume

OH, you also need to ensure that you have a good/proper download. The only way to do that is to find out what the hash is supposed to be and verify it with an Md5 checker

You did go back to your PC and click on NEXT to start the process? It will stall there if you don’t do that.

Yes, I do have the recovery PC connected. I have left the recovery PC on since I started the recovery.
I will look at the log files. I have three 3 drives connected, originally had 4 connected to the DX4000 but one drive degraded. Should I remove a disk and try this on two disks instead of 3? Would it help if I posted the log files from this previous recovery attempt?

Gramps,

Here is the end of the recover log:

did you do diskpart > clean on all 3 drives?
Send the entire log then

Yes I did diskpart>clean all three drives. Attached is the recovery log.

I think that looks fine. You either have a bad download, must be checked with MD5 hash tool or I have seen in the past it simply does not like your thumb drive.

Try a different brand. I know of no way to “test” the thumb drive to see if it is happy :frowning:

Gramps, thanks for your help. Do you happen to know where I might get a different ISO download?

You just need to check it. Sometimes you can actually get them from the internet archive. You can at least get the hash value to compare
poke around here

I was able to get the recovery to complete by switching to a different flash drive and using two disks instead of three, as one of the disks is a newer disk and isn’t on the whitelist. My plan afterward is to run the Drive Enabler after the Server finishes setting up and add the third disk.

Thanks for all the help.

Great, thanks for the follow up

weird I thought it was happy

But then it does say this for the 3rd drive before that

Can someone help me with a similar issue? My pc will not connect to my DX4000. I have a network cable connect to it from my pc.

You need a dhcp server and then look and make sure the server got an IP
Your worker PC cannot have multiple IP’s

It won’t work with a direct connection between the PC and DX4000. Both have to be connected to the same network using a router with DHCP capability.

I missed that cable thing
It might actually work if the worker pc is set to dhcp.
They both get funky ip’s that can talk to each other (maybe)

Thanks and Ok, I am going to try now with them both connected to a router with DHCP capability.

That worked. I’m currently at this stage. Been displaying this for about an hour the whole process has been going for about 2 hours
